Who will we laugh at now?

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

For eight years stores have stocked their shelves with George W. Bush products. Books of his stupidest quotes and figurines of this moronic president have been given as gifts, bought for the pure hilarity of it all. Where George Washington was known for bring together America, George W. Bush is known as the most laughed at president in our history, but that is all coming to a close in 2009.  Soon America will have no one to poke fun at. Not that anyone is in the mood to laugh with our economy slowly falling apart. But while this comical American icon “can just envision getting in the car, getting bored, going down to the ranch” down in Texas, what will the rest of us do?  Though liberals cheer the coming day when Obama takes over what will all those retailers who have made a living on producing gag gifts based off our clown like president do? How will the comedic industry keep afloat, when there is nothing funny about change?  So as we gain a leader that may very well lead us towards a brighter future, so must we part with a man who has left us in stitches through all the idiocy he puts out there.

How will Hillary lead?

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Obama is readying his cabinet for his imminent takeover and he is pulling to him some of America’s brightest political minds. But is choosing ex-rival Hillary Clinton for the Secretary of State a smart move? Clinton has always been a strong willed and extremely intelligent politician even from her days behind the scenes as the first lady. She recently put her name back in headlines when she ran for the democratic nomination. Since then she has been flitting in and out of headlines.  She has garnered a wide variety of praise and criticism. Many people see her political merit while others are overtly put off by her decisive and capable manner. She is known to be an overpowering force and there is a definite possibility for her and Obama to but heads. Many fear that this will keep the GOP from taking any really action do to constant internal skirmishes.   Also many Republicans fear her liberal views on health care and education. They have, in the past, done everything in their power to stop her reforms from gaining support. This could continue to be evident in the coming years.            Now I ask you. Will Hillary Clinton be a true hero in this dark time or will she be a hindrance to progress?

Out with the old, In with the new

obama vs. bush President-elect Barack Obama will soon take center stage and assume the role of commander in chief but as he brings in a wave of ‘change’ Americans begin to wonder just what will be different.

Obama appears to be in no way the same as former president George W. Bush. He is young, eloquent, and a democrat. With all these difference what will he do with past polices? Obama now has the power to alter the controversial restrictions imposed in the previous regime.

Stem Cell Research – During Bush’s 8 years in office he impose harsh restrictions on embryonic stem cell research, barring federal funding for many forms. Obama, who on his website said he supports new stem cell research, may very well reinstate funding for more exploration. This will be met with great enthusiasm for many researchers and victims of diseases such as Parkinson’s.

Funding for Organizations that perform abortions – Bush cut all funding for organizations that perform abortions overseas or even offer counseling about them. It is thought that Obama may over turn this policy and restore funding.

Oil drilling – Obama may also overturn Bush’s policy of lifting restriction on the fragile areas of Utah. Many environmental groups have been outraged since this was enacted.

Guantanamo Bay – Obama hopes to close this prison once he takes office. This prison, which currently holds hundreds of ‘suspected terrorists’, was put into full use during Bush’s 8 years. However, a decision has not been made as to the 255 inmates residing there.

As our new president takes up the mantel we will just have to see what changes he will make, for better or for worse.

Gun sales skyrocket with Obama’s election

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

nraGot a new president…buy a gun?

Many Americans are doing just that. After Obama’s controversial election to presidency gun storeowners have seen a noticeable increase in their gun sales.

“I have been in business for 12 years, and I was here for Y2K, September 11, Katrina,” Conatser said, in a CNN interview “And all of those were big events, and we did notice a spike in business, but nothing on the order of what we are seeing right now.”

Other weapons dealers have also seen this obvious spike in purchases of guns. Even running out of certain models in their stores.

Many feel that this is in reaction to the possible threat of harsher restrictions being leveled on gun purchasing. They want to get them before it becomes harder to.

The NRA says that they expect Obama to impose a heavy tax on guns and ammunition do to a previous article about Senator Obama supporting a tax increase of 500%. Now that he will be leading the country they fear he may really enact this previous threat. We will just wait and see.

Is he justifed in raising taxes on arms and ammunition?
