Trust in experience
Who should we trust to take us into or out of war? Now I am not the biggest fan of war but at times there seems to be little other option. In my opinion we should place our trust in those who have experienced wars. Now I do not just mean been to war, no I mean people who have truly suffered in war. Maybe somebody who spent a couple years in a P.O.W camp and a couple more in solitary confinement with daily beatings. Maybe somebody who went through rehabilitation to fight for a country even after having given them enough of his sanity and flesh to excuse him from service. Anybody who has suffered through something like that is certain to think long and hard about sending troupes anywhere, and if this somebody does send troupes somewhere we could rest assured it was for a good reason.
I believe this somebody is John McCain.
People want an Anti-War president well guess what there is not one up for election this time. Even Obama is not Anti-War he just says that the Iraq war is “Dumb”. I believe that both of these candidates would prefer not going to war but I truly believe that McCain will make better more informed decisions on war.

For the record the Iraq war is and was “Dumb” why did we do it? Wait I remember 9/11!!!! But Wait a minute 1,2,3 no 9 out of the 14 pilots were from Saudi Arabia?!?!?!?!? Makes sense to go to Iraq.

While he may make good decisions on the war, that is only one issue the next President of America must tackle. From a cumulative standpoint, it’s not smart to elect a president who will only secure America’s future on one plane. Americans must consider who is best for all aspects of the United States over these next four years and try and move beyond what their personal beliefs and prejudices are.

Seems to me that essentially both candidates stand for the same things only in different intensities.

Well its only for the last I don’t know 40 years that there has been this huge separation between parties. Even though there has always been this party system there used to be less group think and more concern on specific issues. Now we have these Oprah politicians where when people do something everybody copies it. They have to read the same book so to speak.
I am interested to see how you feel about this whole war hero status that he has and if it will help him get elected.

I am really not sure how much it will help, since war heroes in the past have come from successful wars. What I mean by successful wars is that the war yielded some great victory for the nation, whether it was tangible or not. McCain was in Vietnam…not to many people were happy about that so I am not sure how much “war hero” will help him.

hehehe, haveing someone thats been there isn’t necesarrily what we need controling who goes there. haveing him think about the people he’s sending out will stop him from acheiveing victory. if he ceased the ingagement with the iraqi then we’ll most all disgrace the people comeing back. some thing happened with veitnam. we need someone who will not treat them as people and will treat them as pawns. send them out to do what they and have them raid the place. only way to get out is to win. the soildiers have sold their souls to the government and it is now time for them to pay with their lives.

As a daughter of a now retired military dad, I know how it is for the families who have had people in their family at war. Ever since March of 2003..(when the war started) America has been safe from any more attacks like 911. I think we have been pretty safe…therefore I think while I hate war, it is what NEEDED to be. As of now, I think the troups should be gone because most of the bad damage is done. I also think we should have not killed saddam…while yes he was a pretty bad dude, he was so bad he kept al kida to themselves and stopped them from making furthur harm. Now that he is gone, that is what is killing our troops al kida. I don’t really like either of the two up for president. I believe in many liberal things, though obama saying certain things really steamed me up (i.e. the pastor/white grandmother comment….Why does she have to be white). Mccain I don’t think will win, because of his choices for VP. He is going to choose a mormon which the “Holy rollers” will not like or somebody who is ProChoice which is very agianst most republican (a.k.a Conservative) ways. Either way, I don’t really like the choice but I would vote for McCain he has been through many things, and if he picks somebody ProChoice for VP I think he can change this country for the better.

I agree only a man who has been thru something is qualifyed to make a descion about that same subject. Only then wil that person truly consider what they are getting into and just how horribly it can affect others . Even then war is a neseccity some times

I think that human beings should be treated like human beings, not like pawns, because then we are no greater than a communist country’s heartless government.
and the U.S. must be greater.
As someone who has seriously considered joining the military, I think that the families of the troops out there almost hurt worse than they do.
They signed up for this. They want to be involved in what their country believes in, even if its not the whole country.
Sometimes in wars, things go way way way wrong. I don’t believe in war, personally, but sometimes there doesn’t seem to be any other way.
All of you should go out and watch Seoul Train. And do something to better this world, because, quite obviously, our president won’t always take care of that.
Support our troops, where ever they are, but they signed up for that. They want to make the world a better place, and that is what they believe they are doing.
Now, drafts…should be illegal. And if guys have to like fill out those forms when they turn 18 saying they can be drafted, girls should too.

I think the point indigo, was that in theory he will be less likely to put people into war and think of them just as pawns…the problem is though that he went back into the service after he did not need to any more. To me that shows that he feels like thats what people owe their country.

Well, I agree here: “we should place our trust in those who have experienced wars” and I mean civilians, journalists, maybe reformed soldiers. Current troops have too much at stake. They have an order of command. McCain or Obama, whatever, lets vote for Cynthia McKinney!

Just because they were from Saudia Arabia doesn’t mean they weren’t associated with Saddam.
The most honorable thing about John McCain’s years as a P.O.W. is that he was offered a chance to leave and go home, but he refused to leave his men and chose to stay with them. The physical scars are a true testimony that the only thing better than having something to live for, is having something worth dying for. John McCain has displayed the integrity, honor, and leadership it takes to run a country. Obama is not a bad man, I just don’t believe he measures up to the things John McCain has experienced, and he doesn’t have the wisdom that takes decades to form.
