Obama Supporter and not sure why?

I am a 17 year old guy and up until recently I thought I was an Obama supporter. A friend of mine kept asking me why it was that I supported Obama and eventually I realized I did not have an answer. After doing some research I found three issues I would like clarification on. So Obama is for gay rights but not for gay marriage, he wants a middle ground between pro-choice and pro-life, and he wants to send 845 billion dollars overseas.
Ok so from just these three things it does not look like I am a big Obama supporter. I am totally for gay marriage and gay rights, whereas he seems to have not picked an overly decisive path. One might say that some gay rights are better than none, but I would have to disagree saying that if there are no gay rights people will continue fighting for the rights instead of being placated.  What middle ground is there for pro-choice and pro-life? Instead of calling it a middle ground why not say that strict standards need to be set in place? If that is the case then what would the middle ground be? No infanticide? Only in certain circumstances?
845 billion dollars to send overseas to fight poverty. How? It sounds grand and it is something I very much believe we should do, but how? My vote is by cutting our military funding but did he propose that? Has he given some other way that we can fund this?  Let me know if any of this is wrong, and also give me reasons to support Obama or not. Thank you for your help in molding my young mind.

I think that either choice has Pro’s and Con’s. I am glad I don’t have to vote because I like neither so it’s very difficult. At least you have some kind of idea who you like that’s good for you!

  2. Tabetha Says:

wow. see i didnt know that obama was so indecisive. im super pro-choice and extremely for gay rights and marriage so i want a president w mirroring opinions. however obama is the better choice than mc caine bcuz i def dont agree w that guy on anything.

  3. Tyler Says:

I think the thing is, we dont really vote on presidents for their ideology, that’s what senators are for. We vote on presidents for what they can do. Sure the ideology of a president affects what bills he will sign and veto, but if the senate and house are strong enough, they can pass anything without the president (although that is unlikely in these times). But the president is the head of the executive branch, that’s the do branch, they do stuff. They are the fist of the US. The pres decides who we bomb, who we’re friends with, and uses his influence to help the country, and some other things that I need to do more research on to remember. As far as doing stuff goes, McCain and Palin look like great candidates, McCain has served in a war, he has leadership experience, Palin totally rocked Alaska in her short term as Governor, we cant look down on Obama’s experience in leading and helping his community (like Palin did), and I barely know anything about the other guy (lol). But its these kinds of things that we need to decide on. Ideologies are for senators and congressmen. Action is for presidents

  4. Matt Says:

So let me get this straight. You don’t support Obama because he won’t commit political suicide on the issues? Sorry, but the passage of anti-gay marriage amendments and quick denial of even marriage-like rights to homosexuals all over the country has demonstrated quite clearly that no presidential candidate can get elected by coming out in strong support for gay marriage. To win this election, Obama has to pull the swing voters to his side (and still get votes from his liberal base). Swing voters don’t tend to favor gay rights. We live in a pretty conservative country. It sucks, but its true.

If you think no gay rights is better than some, then by all means, vote a straight fundamentalist Christian ticket. We can find out if it gets us anywhere.

There is no middle ground on the abortion issue? We are already at a middle ground. Laws can and have been made, dictating when it is and is not acceptable for an abortion to be performed. The fundamentalist Christians are in an uproar about any form of abortion being legal. Pro-choice organizations are in an uproar over those abortions that are still or have been made illegal. Both sides are upset. Sounds like a compromise to me.

Incidentally, I still like the idea of teaching kids about birth control (a compromise to reduce abortion?), thereby skirting the issue (obviously not entirely) of what to do with unwanted pregnancies.

  5. David Says:

Matt now this is an honest question and not an attack on you. Why should somebody vote Obama? The way you describe him is as somebody who is playing the angles and doing what it is he believes will get him elected. While this is understandable how ethical is it? Would you do it?

  6. will_the_real_change_please_stand_up Says:

I don’t know if this will help you or not, but I am hoping that it will.

Being 17, presumably, this is your first opportunity to vote and for your interest in doing so, you should be commended. There are plenty of young people your age who feel disenfranchised and left out by the voting process and have a feeling of apathy toward the entire process. So good for you for exercising your privilege and right to vote!

I will attempt to answer your questions the best way I know how… I watched both the DNC and the RNC coverage (mainly because I thought it was the best way to know what both sides were thinking about the issues at hand). During the Republican coverage, I noticed that there were quite a few veiled (and obvious) anti-gay comments made. Guiliani compared small town values to cosmopolitan cities like San Francisco (perhaps because it was the city that first made gay marriage legal)… more Republicans made it clear that they wanted to keep marriage intact -between a man and a woman only!

Honestly, I don’t think that this is going to be an issue for the entire nation. I think that it is going to be decided on a state by state basis. States like California (that are much, much more liberal than others) may choose to make it legal while others may not. Perhaps we will see a shift in populations as homosexuals flock to these liberal states so that they can have the same rights as straight married couples (tax breaks, health care benefits, being able to decide major medical decisions on behalf of their spouse in a time of need, etc.)

Personally, I wouldn’t trust the Republicans to budge on their narrow views for gay rights.

As for abortion - we currently have a middle ground in place. We have the right to choose what we want to do with our bodies. This choice is guaranteed under Roe v. Wade. Under Obama this will be held intact. Under McCain, the plan is to overturn this decision by placing additional conservative justices to the Supreme Court as they retire (much like George W. did with his appointments of Alito and Roberts).

As for the money sent overseas to fight poverty. I have no idea where Obama plans to get it. I know that he plans to increase taxes for the rich and big corporations. McCain wants to make GW’s tax cuts for the rich permanent. Being a member of a lower-middle class, I feel that Obama is more in touch with my needs and the needs of a larger percentage of the American population.

Additionally, I also feel that electing Obama would send a strong message of change to the rest of the world, after all we wouldn’t have another old white guy running our country anymore, would we? That’s change. Recently, I traveled outside of the country to Europe, and I can say without hesitation that the world is really watching us Americans to see if we can actually change our minds and our ways. They are not happy with the way that things have been going and with McCain having voted 95% of the time with GW - I don’t see how he can even be using the word “change” in his campaign. It seems like he’s plagiarizing Obama’s speech.

I am voting for Obama. I want real serious change, like 180 degrees from where we are now.

I can’t stand the idea of having more of the same. And frankly, watching the Republicans chant “Drill, baby, drill!” and listening to them make anti-community-organizer remarks made my skin crawl. What kind of elitist jerks do they think they are? Community organizers are the people who get things done on the streets, who tackle the real issues that plague our streets and neighborhoods in cities large and small while they fight for higher government to get off their butts and notice that something is wrong!

Consider your options and vote for a candidate that you can see yourself living with for the next 8 years, because as we’ve seen with GW - even if you’re doing a really bad job as President, it’s pretty easy to get re-elected!
So imagine yourself at 25 years old and ask yourself, who would you vote for?

Hope this helped at least a little bit!

  7. Nathan S Says:

McCain voted against the ban on gay marriage, and Sara Palin ’s first veto was on a bill that would have denied partner benefits for gay government employees.

Dems scream that gays are not being treated fairly (and to a large degree they are right) but when a fellow dem demurs, or a republican advocates, for gay rights then it’s not a big deal and is brushed aside one way or another.

  8. bum3 Says:

well it seems nobody said anything about the billions going over seas. i have to say as one of the working of the people and one that actually pays taxes so forth that i dont want my money feeding some homeless ethiopian/african/korean/chinese/russian/britian/austrailian/cuban/mexican/iranian/iraqian/afghanian lazy ass son of a bitch that dump himself out when it wont even go for our own people in our own country. the people overseas have their governments that need to get off the shitter and use regular toilet paper rather than silk sheets, and take care of their own.

if we have 875billion dollars to fund overseas hobos then why not fund use hobos? why not pay for a genocide of poor people? why not cheapin the schools with all that 875billion. why not take a huge fuckin chunk out of the defeceit instead of putting a tumor on it?

and as someone said “he president is the head of the executive branch, that’s the do branch”…well if he can’t make his own choices as a person and firmly beleive them, then how can he make a choice to take action and solve situations? when a man cant decide then he cant care.

the pro-life/pro-choice, and gay rights shit is all of the hippocritical america, “wooo freedom for all…that can pay for it”. this country ain’t free until we revolt and make it free ourselves.

true freedom is anarchy, yet people fear anti-structure.anti-order, anti-rules.

  9. Chris Says:

Vote for Obama because if McCain wins we will invade Iran, no questions asked. We will likely see the Cold War situation all over again if we are too agressive with Russia over the situation in Georgia. Do no warning bells go off when this man says it is cowardice to so much as speak with the leaders of countries we will potentially be at war with if we don’t come to agreements?

McCain’s energy plan contains absolutely no new money for new sources of energy. He will drill offshore, and with the by-now-expected mindset he will not persue any other form of power until our oil dries up too.

The economy has been touted as the most important issue in this election, and Obama’s tax plan cuts taxes on the middle-class (earning $250,000 or less) by more than half of McCain’s, which favors cuts for large corporations- including big oil. Obama wants to RAISE those same taxes, which incidentally is how he would finance the project to fight poverty. Contrary to the republican media’s spin on it, the amount quoted would be met well after Obama left office for the SECOND time and wouldn’t cost a dime to the working man, as Josh put it. We’re talking about taking money from greedy, corporate American pseudo-monopolies and using it to feed the world.

That’s why *I* am voting Obama.

Ok you guys….. Let’s look at the whole matter here…… One of the TEN commandments CLEARLY states “thou shall not judge”. So why is there even a discussion let allow why is Aboration and Gay Marriage mention. Let them….. the people live their lives and allow the/our/my High Superior “GOD” (cause if u consider MAN as ur high superior u need a reality check) to make the determination of what’s rightful and wrongful. There are american people wanna be christians and say they are christians and still judging what goes on in other lives. U have 1 life to live…… live it and worry about what goes on in ur househole…. what’s rightful and wrongful….. a lot of u people needs to clean and get ur household in order. The discuss/debate of aboration and gay marriage is ridiculous…. let them people be….. that’s their body and u dont have to pay neither by cleaning supplies for them…. gay marriage u dont like it turn your head the other way…… did they ask u to sleep with them or funds to have a sex change or raise their kids…..NO I DIDNT THINK SO……. Come on american people get a live and grip and move on…. debate and discuss more important issues…. HEALTHCARE, SOCIAL WORKERS SALARY, TEACHER’S SALARY, WHY SPORTS MAKING MORE MONEY THAN THAN THE MAN IS RUNNING/OVERSEER OF THIS U.S. COUNTRY…………

  11. JB Says:

    David,

Neither candidate is going to do anything about gay rights, so don’t waste your time there. Anytime that gay rights’ laws have been voted on, they’ve been blasted out of the water in just about every state in the union. The majority of American people don’t want it, so they’re not going to antagonize the voters.

The answer to where that 845 billion is coming from is simple. Your paycheck (and mine and everybody else’s). When Sen. Obama says he wants to tax big corporations, what he means is, he wants to tax you. Since you are 17 and not yet worrying about income tax returns and the like, you probably don’t understand the economics of the Obama tax plan.

First, understand that it is an old political mantra of the Democratic party to refer to tax cuts as being “tax cuts for the rich”, even when they benefit EVERYONE. However, being in the middle class myself, I received all the benefits of the Bush tax cuts. I am not rich, never have been. But it’s a popular statement for the Dems to make.

A quick economics lesson: When you have extra money in your pocket what do you do? Usually, you spend a little of it, if not all of it. If you found a $50 dollar bill, are you going to put it away in savings? If you are like most, you’ll spend a little of it, and save a little of it.

If you get a larger tax refund, you have extra money to get things. By making purchases, you stimulate the economy, especially when its 250+ million people doing it. By doing so, businesses generate more revenue and even though they pay less of their earnings in taxes, they have more money to pay to the government. After Bush’s tax cuts were enacted, the Treasury took in more money than it ever has, thanks to those same tax cuts.

But when Obama talks about taxing big corporations (something he can’t just do on his own unilaterally–Congress has to make that happen), think about what that means. These “big corporations” employee a lot of people like you and me, most of whom are in the middle class to lower class, with a small number of management persons who are wealthy. But the corporations are owned by stockholders. The CEOs of large corporations are in business to make money, and that means increasing the value of the stockholders’ shares so they will want to keep investing in that stock.

If they are taxed more, the corporation has less money. They aren’t going to just sit there and make less money. They are going to have to make up the losses somewhere. The first thing they do is raise prices on their products, so you pay more for the stuff you need or want like cars, food, clothing, electronics, etc. Imagine the expense to you if everything you buy costs 10-20% more. That adds up. So, in effect, you’re still being the one who gets taxed, just in an indirect way.

But they can only raise prices so much, so the next step is streamlining their staff, so employees will be fired. Depending on the size of the company, that could mean thousands will lose their jobs, and the ones that remain will have twice as much work to complete. And it won’t be the upper management that gets fired; it will be the least necessary and easiest positions to fill, which means mostly middle and lower class employees are the ones who will get fired.

One more thought to keep in mind on the subject. Over half this nation’s taxes are paid by the wealthiest 1% of the population. Also, keep in mind it is not a crime to make money, although Democratic politicians would have you believe that it is. If you wanted to start your own company, do you really want the government telling you that can only make so much money before we take it from you? Don’t think for a second that Barack Obama, isn’t filthy rich, or that he’s going to sign a bill into law that hurts him economically. But he’ll have no problem though signing off on laws that do affect you financially.

Finally, on pro-choice vs pro-lilfe, Roe v. Wade is still in effect. The Supreme Court just can’t overturn it because they want to. A suit has to be brought before them, and they have to rule on it. Liberal judges have often overstepped their bounds and legislated from the bench, creating new laws with their rulings. That is not a function of hte judicial branch, that is the function of the legislative branch (Congress). The 2 justices appointed by Bush are both originalists, who oppose judicial activism or creating new laws with their rulings. Dems predicted the sky would fall after the appointment of Alito and Roberts, and as you can see, that never materialized.

  12. Josh Says:

LoL. Your facts are totally off Chris. Mccain has said he would give 300 million incentives to companies researching and bringing out new energies. He would also like to drill everywhere. Which I do not see the problem a short term help and hopefully by that time there will be a long term fix. It although is not the companies faults for not making more energy friendly vehicles they just make what the people want. In the early 90s Chevy made a vehicle with 80mpg but never was sold because no one wanted it. And what is Obama’s stance on drilling, nobody knows because it goes back and forth.

Ya you also talk about taxing the corporations like crazy. You sound like tim robbins on “Team America World Police”. You should also watch the South Park about the Walmart coming to town. If we hated corporations so much we wouldn’t use their services or buy anything from them. You hate the corporations, but you know what taxing them will do right? Shell’s CEO even said on a morning show when asked what he would do if they were taxed the response was it will just raise prices. Taxing on the rich never does what people want it to do because not only are there so many loopholes but increases always go down to the lowly consumer its pretty much the trickle down effect. What needs to be done is get rid of the IRS and have a flat tax which would be done by having a sales tax and no income tax. The more you buy the more you pay it is so much more fair.

Now down to the reason you like Obama because he is a great speaker, he has an agenda of change(whether anything would actually change I don’t know), it is the cool thing to do for ages 18-24, you probably like the idea of universal healthcare(key word “idea” if it actually happens I don’t see it working well, probably something like many socialist countries whose people come to the US for delicate procedures), and you think it would make you more openminded. If you wanted open mindedness I think the closest party and not even close would be the Libertarians you shoulda voted for Ron Paul or now Bob Barr.

  13. PAT Says:

I THINK ALL OF YOU ARE MCCAIN PEOPLE. WHY ALL OF THOSE PEOPLE ARE FAKES AND I AM SIMPLY TRIED OF THEM. IF YOU WERE FOR OBAMA EARILER YOU WOULD BE FOR HIM NOW. PALIN NOR MCCAIN WOULD NOT CHANGE THAT BECAUSE ALL THEY ARE DOING IS BASHING OBAMA INSTEAD OF SAYING WHAT CHANGE THEY WILL BRING. THE CHANGE WILL PROBABLY BE WATER AND BREAD TO EAT AND A MULE TO GO FROM PLACE TO PLACE BECAUSE MCCAIN DOESN’T REALIZE THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG.

  14. Diana Johnson Says:

    Dear David,
There are more issues out there besides what happens behind closed doors and this is not to say that abortion & gay rights aren’t important but you would be wiser to look at where America is right now and ask yourself what will we look like in 4 or 8 years if we keep this up. We are in a war we can’t win, we have higher unemployment rates than we’ve had, gas prices up because of the present administration, up to 80% drop out rate for high school students, and people suffering under this present administration. Go out into the communities beyond yours and look around. As a nation we can’t continue this way. Obama is the only way we’ll dig ourselves out of the state we’re in. We need change in the worse way. Obama/Biden are two people we can trust because they have worked in the communities and they are of the community. How can McCain relate to what the poor & middle class needs when he can’t count the number of houses he owns (we should all be so lucky).
This is a short list of why I’m voting for Obama/Biden because I want a president who cares and if McCain can cast aside his first wife like he did then we know we will do the same for the American people.
OBAMA is our choice and I hope he’ll be your choice too.

  15. David Says:

Allright so you guys are right about Obama. Basically the reason I was freaked out all of a sudden is because all of these things that I had automatically assumed he stood for as a democrat, I found out he didn’t. This type of assumption only fuels the group think that I thought I had escaped. I need to look more and more and try to be as non partisan as possible. I still am not ready to pick a side but I am really glad that you guys have taken to being informative instead of simply telling me I am wrong. Growing up in a republican household I generally get one of the sides fed to me, and even as I turn on the news and go online everything seems to have a bias. My poor impressionable mind can not take it.

    Back to school I go

  16. Chris Says:

My facts are off, are they? Let’s see.

“Mccain has said he would give 300 million incentives to companies researching and bringing out new energies.”

Incentives, as in tax cuts. As I said, no new money. No FUNDING. It is not enough to give a- relatively- measly handout to whoever else happens to be solving this problem. The GOVERNMENT needs to agressivle back and pursue these projects.

“He would also like to drill everywhere. Which I do not see the problem a short term help and hopefully by that time there will be a long term fix.”

Obama WILL drill. Actually, the decision will be made for him by the end of the month. The current ban on offshore drilling expires and Congress has no choice but to come up with some new legislation. Perhaps it will not be to the extent that McCain would like, but Obama is not willing to pretend that it will be anything other than a stall, as you admitted yourself. The difference is that Obama isn’t willing to simply hope that someone else comes up wth a real solution in the meantime.

“Taxing on the rich never does what people want it to do because not only are there so many loopholes but increases always go down to the lowly consumer its pretty much the trickle down effect.”

What Obama wants it to do, as I said, is to fund the foreign poverty relief that David mentioned. Which it will. I really don’t give a shit if Wal-Mart’s prices go up to save lives.

    Stop me when I lie.

  17. Josh Says:

I apologize that I worded it incentive because what he has proposed is a $300 billion prize to any automaker that can make a “battery that far surpasses current technology.” http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/06/23/politics/main4201682.shtml?source=RSSattr=Politics_4201682
So your facts are off sir.

“The difference is that Obama isn’t willing to simply hope that someone else comes up wth a real solution in the meantime.”
I believe this is where you and me differ most breakthroughs in many things have been done by private corporations usually not the government cuz the government can not ever agree on anything and nothing ever gets done. This is why privatization of Social Security is the way.

So when will Obama start the drilling in ANWR? No time soon i would have to think.

And I am not at all for giving all our money away especially when we are in the negative we need to fix problems at home before we go giving money away.

Also Chris it seems like most people have a problem with how the government handles the money so why would you want to give them more money? They always say it will go to this or that but how much of that really happens?

  18. Amanda Porter Says:

ok well thats why they call it politics the things you say you wanted are what Hilary Clinton stood for. But, alas she is not really electiable because in the real world few people stand for those things. with obama we have to hope he will be conservative enough to get elected but liberal enough to still accomplish some good. You always have to look at your options and
make the best choice. Since im to young to run for president yet well have to pick from what we have. and obama is clearly the best of the choices we have.

and remember rearly in our history are great things accomplished rapidly short of going to civil war over an issue. It usually talkes small steady chiseling away at a cause before we get to where we want to be. think of all the abortion rights fighting that has gone on just to get us to where we are today. and remember that roe vs. wade is a supreme court decision which no president has the power to change

  19. Chris Says:

A new battery is not a new form of energy.

    From McCain’s own website:

“John McCain believes in an even-handed system of tax credits that will remain in place until the market transforms sufficiently to the point where renewable energy no longer merits the taxpayers’ dollars.”

I’ll say it for the last time, no new money.

    Drilling?

“If we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage — I don’t want to be so rigid that we can’t get something done.”

    Hm.

  20. Gottago4it Says:

It’s a no brainer for me, I am sick of putting ignored people in the White House. You know an individual that lack smarts or common sense. I want a person that knows how to pronouce words properly, a person that is cultured. A person that is not divisive. We live in American with different cultures, races, and religionist beliefs. I want someone that respects my view, that does not try to force their view on me. Even though I am pro-life I think it is the women’s choice. I don’t care if it is a black, white, mexican or asian person in office as long as things get done and we are not screwed like the past 8 years. I want someone that respects my right to be gay straight or neither. I do not want someone bacause they are women or because they are man or because they are white or black. For me it is about the real issues. I believe in change, because I believe this world was built on change. I don’t think we should put lipstick on a pig and call it change because it is not.

  21. rene norton Says:

Vote for McCain, Obama already owes 100 million in favors, had to spend 4 to one just to stay even with Hillary Clinton

check out Sarah in Kuwait …put up or shut up Obama

  22. JAM Says:

Ignorance is bliss. If I continue to listen to the media and the whole right wing trickery in politics, I will never know the truth. I find the truth out by going to both candidates websites, reading about the candidate and hearing both candidates in person and making my decisions from there. As a result, the fact remains, McCains policies are entirely identical to Bushes. There is no cleaning up. Therefore when you nick pick at a small piece of a bigger picture, your results will become devasting. Ignorance will make you fall for anything because you are not willing to find the truth. Are you looking for a president who does not support gay rights nor pro choice, or a president who supports them openly as part of their policy making decisions? Are you looking for a president who feel the educational system is currently ideal and works, or someone who states they want to reform an educational program that supports teachers and quality learning suitable for our kids? Let’s face it. Money put into vouchers is nothing more than a waste that could be a major resource to help our school. I come at you first hand. The biggest problem in our educational system is not our teachers, its our parenting and the current exclusion of the low SES that needs help. The people are suffering and will continue to suffer as long as “false” presidents are put into office. Are you looking for a privatized health care plan that allows companies to decide how much the premiums will cost which will essentially leave those who are suffering now and leave even more to suffer because they can’t afford it? Its already happening. Or do you want a health care plan that is universal that will be inclusive of all? Read about it. If we keep going down the same path with our presidents, we won’t have social security. I’ve done my homework, and I know who and what is making sense. When you visit both candidates websites find out who stands more for the people and who stands for the same old politics. When you lose more gay rights, equal right, and pro choice rights, are you going to be still saying “I don’t know”. Or will you be standing outside holding a picket sign asking for your rights you let go voting for McCain because you are so busy caught up in being misinformed. We cannot let the world be the only ones who recognize who would be the best president for our country while we are a laughing stock because we are so wrapped up by an unsuited image. Who would best be suited to build an alliance, now lost, with countries around the world? When Obama chose Biden he found someone with experience in an area he was critized for to back his overall agenda as president. When McCain chose Palin he found an image. Need I say more. For Obama we stand. For McCain we fall!

  23. Janice Flint Says:

Here is a reason to NOT vote for OBAMA……………He offered up a bill to spend $845 billion dollar on the World Povery Relief Act. Known as One WOrld Government………….this idea originated in the United Nations.

    Wake up………………and vote AGAINST Obama.

  24. Chuck Goins Says:

Thats a small reason to throw away a vote that could possibly change the course of our current laughing stock of a country thanks to Bush. Get better educated at the way the country works before you start making comments like the one you just published. Offering up a bill does not make it a law. It has to go through so many hoops that sometimes can take years. It has to go through congress and could get held up in commity and may NEVER see the light of day. And if congress passes it, the President still has to approve it and he coule possibly VETO it. So a senator offering up a bill is just the beginning of a LONG LONG road to the desk of the President. As we all know, every vote for McCain is just another vote to keep the same politics for the next four years. Truly… are you that close minded to think things will change if McCain is elected? Arent you tired of poor decisions being made on your behalf? Are you not ready to take a chance on something different? Things cant possibly get any worse. McCain is not concerned about health care, education or the common man. He is all about putting money in every rich mans pocket and not yours. The Bush administration has lost this country so much respect it’s unreal, McCain will continue to do the same. As for his running mate…. He only picked her to gain votes. NOT because she was the most qualified to hold the position. Isnt it funny how he wont even let her speak unless he is around. She has not spoken alone publicly since she was picked. She is a pawn to get him into the White House… Nothing more. The sad thing is so many people are falling for this ruse. VOTE FOR CHANGE! VOTE OBAMA

  25. bitter honest Says:

Here’s something no one else will say, but be patient:
There’s very little difference between G.W. Bush and Obama.
-Both started their campaigns vigorously insisting on changing the way Washington works for the good of the people.
-Both lied aggressively during their campaigns by implying things they had no intention of carrying out
-Both are extremely weak at standing up to big money and corporate interests.
-Please don’t tell me about Obama’s grassroots movement. The huge donation numbers he’s getting are way off for that alone.
-Obama is one of the most two-faced politicians I’ve ever witnessed. Ever.

I’ve been a lifelong Democrat who will be voting for McCain in this election cycle.

I stilll can’t believe the MCain is still fooling some Americans. Can’t you see it will be the same thing the Repubs have been doing since the last 8 years? This will be a repeat of the same tired policies that got this country down the toilet. We are treated like trash overseas. America needs to regain the respect it had some years ago. the rest of the world loves Obama. lets put him in office so that real change happens not fake Sarah ‘change’ Palin .

  27. Marcaurelius Says:

McCain is a continuation of Bush—- PERIOD.

    Same objectives; same advisors.

If your are 17 years old, McCain will be sending a lot of your friends
    into another unnecessary war.

  28. Scott Says:

As a Republican and a former soldier I was all for McCain this election year. After the way Bush treated him in 2000 I was sure that this campaign season would be about the economy, healthcare, and other ways to improve what W had messed up. When he picked Sarah Palin I decided to vote for Obama because even though he lacks experience he is willing to surround himself with people who have experience that make sense, which is why both Alan Greebspan and Warren Buffet say his plan for the economy will work in comparison to McCain’s. My household income is over 250K so I will see an increase in taxes but the economy will rebound and the US will truly be a respected SuperPower again. So this is why I am voting for Obama/Biden in November. When Karl Rove says ” McCain is stretching the truth” then you have really started lying.

to:Bitter Honest, Look over the last few presidents that the United States have had. They have ALL (using your words) “started their campaigns vigorously insisting on changing the way Washington works for the good of the people” They have ALL been (using your words).extremely weak at standing up to big money and corporate interests.
and MOST of them are (using your words) two-faced politicians any of us have ever witnessed. So changing your vote from one Liar, two-faced politican to another is par for the course. Look at the platform that each stand for, do some research and find out what is happening in the economy and determine for yourself which will make the most change for the next 4 years.

  30. Josh Says:

Not sure why it was that many people loved mccain when him Lindsey Graham, and Joe Lieberman were doing their maverick things much against Bush’s policy but now democrats are comparing him to Bush. Looks like you have a very hypocritical view to me.

  31. charlie Says:

From what you say it’s clear Obama is trying to beat around the bush and please everybody. That doesn’t really work though, for you can’t serve 2 masters. either you love the one and hate the other or you hate the one and love the other. By being indesisive and not making a choice, he’s making a choice. By saying he’s for gay rights but against gay marriage he’s saying he’s against the biggest right they should get. by saying he’s on a middle ground for abortion, its saying hes pro choice. Thats what my understanding is from reading this.
