Romney’s Not Just Business as Usual
by Adrienne Amos
Like a lot of other people in this country, I have been watching the unfolding presidential race with both interest and dread. Candidates bombarding the populous daily with ads that promise a greater tomorrow for everyone don’t help in making an informed decision, in my opinion. Each one seems to be saying only what he/she believes (or have been told to believe by his/her handlers) the people want to hear. As citizens we have to filter out the baloney and look for the small nuggets of truth.
After much study of the candidates’ announced positions on the issues, I have come to some conclusions that support my choice for president. Both the front runners on the Democratic side truly scare me, as I can see them leading us away from the very principles on which this nation was founded. I firmly believe that based on her stated views and agendas, Hillary is a socialist. Barrack has, in my opinion, a hidden agenda for this country that to date has not been stated. Call it uninformed or paranoid if you will, but there is something about this slick speaker that sends up red flags for me every time I see him. Edwards is a joke that is not even worth discussing.
On the Republican side Huckabee’s southern charm and homey style of speech sounds great, but he really doesn’t strike me as presidential in thought or presentation. Rudy makes a lot of sense, but he doesn’t get my vote either. Current favorite John McCain cites experience and know-how. He’s been in Washington a long time, yet I really can’t see where he has helped me. In November, people will be looking for change, because the candidates and he media have convinced us we must have it—and McCain will not be viewed as change, just business as usual. Finally, Fred Thompson has thus far been too vague.

So here it is—I will be voting for Mitt Romney. He looks and sounds presidential to me. His record shows that he can accomplish good things even under adverse conditions—a Republican Governor in a state ensconced in Democratic tradition. On the issues, he has stated ideas and solutions that make sense to me as an average citizen. He is not a Washington insider. He is young, and for a job that ages individuals at an accelerated pace, youth is an asset that needs to be considered.
As things stand at this moment, I believe that Barrack or Hillary will be the Democrats’ candidate. At this point it doesn’t really matter which, although I believe that Barrack will be easier than Hillary for a Republican to beat in the long run. Regardless, we need a strong candidate on the Republican side or either of them will run away with the election. I believe Mitt Romney is that candidate. McCain is no different than Hillary or Barrack insofar as he is already part of the problem with politics (and he’s been there longer than the two of them combined). Running him would be the same as running Bob Dole against Bill Clinton.
Mitt Romney has a plan for America that makes sense to me, and he will get my vote if he can secure the Republican Nomination. His tough stance on securing our borders and ending the funding to sanctuary cities rings true. Our country is under attack from within and without. I believe his plans for foreign and domestic policies will move us in the direction of a strong nation again, and show those who would harm us that we are not willing to surrender to their threats.
